For the Walter Cunninghams amongst the lot of you, ‘To Kill A Mockingbird” (TKAM) by Harper Lee (gal pal of Truman Capote) is the much much classier novel version of “The Professional” or “Batman Year One” by Frank Miller or profanely “Bagets” even, all coming of age tales that highlight the journey of the youngling/ froshie/ newbie into the “supposed” wisdom of mature adults (which can be seriously contested). Without sounding too chirpy like Julie Andrews twirling in the meadow or optimistic in a Nathan Lane Bird Cage sort of way, there are many things in the world worth naming and even celebrating; and since this IS the centennial celebration of my much lauded and ever criticized Diploma Mill of a university- ever imitated but never duplicated (Go Maroons! Ha-ha! As if!) this is my review AND tribute to 100 things great in and about life in honor of such a memorable landmark in human and Filipino evolution.
These 100 tributes range from the often neglected to the blissfully worshipped on a pedestal. They need not be Nobel prize winners; in fact they may be even down right notorious. Whatever they are, these reviews are short bitefuls of a tribute, but a tribute nevertheless to unforgettable indelible greatness that move us and shake us in ways we may not even know: Tasty nuggets of memory, and zest lasts a very long time. Like MSG.
